User Reviews

1Timer is loved for its voice countdown, customization, and usefulness for focus and ADHD time management. It’s easy to use and helpful for routines. However, users repeatedly report intrusive ads (including scareware-like popups), reliability issues with audio/voice and occasional crashes, and a demand for Apple Watch/Live Activities support.
Pros
  • Voice countdown/talking timer is a core, highly valued feature.
  • Highly customizable timers and interval settings.
  • Great for focus, ADHD/time blindness, and staying on task.
  • Easy to use and user-friendly interface.
  • Useful even without premium; flexible presets aid daily routines.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and scareware-like popups disrupt the experience, including full-screen/video ads that can appear even for premium users.
  • Reliability issues with the voice countdown (sometimes it doesn't speak or speaks late) and occasional instability or crashes, especially with Bluetooth audio.
  • Lack of Apple Watch support and Live Activities; frequent requests for watch app support remain unaddressed.

I’ve tried countless timer and productivity apps over the years, but 1Timer has become one of the few apps that I genuinely use every single day. As someone with ADHD who experiences significant time blindness, this app has become an essential part of how I navigate daily life. I keep a Bluetooth earbud in throughout the day and use the Chain feature every day as a structured guide for managing my time from morning until evening. I use it to make sure I leave for work on time, return from lunch on time, wrap up projects before meetings, begin transitioning out of tasks when necessary, and finish packing up at the end of the day so I can leave work on schedule and avoid traffic delays. The Quick Timer feature helps me create time constraints for chores, household tasks, and activities that might otherwise consume far more time than I intended. The Advanced Timers allow me to save recurring timers for things I need constantly—washer cycles, dryer cycles, paint drying times, cooking tasks, project work, and countless other routines. One feature I especially appreciate is the ability to configure repeated reminders after a timer has completed. For many people, a timer going off once may be enough. For someone with ADHD, that’s not always the case. I may acknowledge the timer, become distracted by whatever I’m currently doing, and then completely forget the original task. The repeated reminder feature helps bridge that gap. It’s particularly valuable for things like laundry, where forgetting to move clothes from the washer to the dryer can mean having to wash them all over again. Knowing that the app will continue reminding me until I address the task provides a level of support that many timer apps overlook. What makes 1Timer so valuable is that it helps externalize my sense of time. ADHD often makes it difficult to accurately perceive the passage of time, estimate how long something will take, or remember to return to a task after stepping away. Instead of constantly checking clocks, setting alarms manually, or trying to keep track of everything in my head, the app becomes a reliable system that keeps my day moving. For me, it has become one of the most important accessibility tools on my phone. That said, there is one area that I believe needs significant improvement: the voice options. Currently, Samantha is the only voice that I find consistently understandable and useful. Most of the other voices sound either overly robotic, heavily stylized, or artificial to the point that they become difficult to understand quickly. When a timer notification is meant to interrupt a task and redirect attention, clarity matters more than novelty. I would strongly encourage the developers to rethink their approach to voice design. GPS navigation apps have largely solved this problem. They offer voices that are clear, natural, distinct, and easy to understand instantly, while still giving users meaningful choices in tone and personality. A timer app serves a very similar function: delivering important information that users need to process immediately. For users with ADHD, executive dysfunction, time blindness, or other accessibility needs, the voice isn’t merely a cosmetic feature. It is part of the functionality of the product itself. Voices that convey clarity, comfort, confidence, and encouragement would make an already excellent app significantly more effective. Despite that criticism, 1Timer remains one of the most useful apps I’ve ever installed. It’s simple, reliable, flexible, and has become deeply integrated into my daily routines. If the voice system were improved, I would consider it close to perfect.
