User Reviews

About a month ago, I messaged customer service asking if they could send me a copy of my personal info. Briefly, I mentioned that I had been using their services for years for “business and personal” and that I had always been satisfied. The response I received was swift and impressive. My account was immediately canceled and a prorated refund issued. I was confused. After reading my email to them for a second and third time, I realized what had happened. I had used the word “business”. Oops. I sent short email the following day telling them that I had not meant “business” in the same way, and that I was using the term they way someone might say “none of your business”. I kept it short and professional. I received a reply from them the following day that thanked me for my appeal but after reviewing the issue, their decision would stand. Alright. Later that evening, I decided I should take the time to thoroughly explain myself. I wrote another email to them. I told them that my “business” was that I’m an artist and that I used the service to investigate potential galleries where my work would be stored for extended periods of time. I explained that it wasn’t an LLC, I didn’t employ anyone, and I wasn’t a paid professional in any way. I explained that I had simply misspoke and used a word that had more than one meaning. I told them I had read through their T&C’s and the Fair Credit Reporting Act and that I was not using instant checkmate in a way that breached the rules. I sent the email, hoping I had finally cleared things up. I got a reply the following Monday morning. They thanked me for providing more detail, but after further review, the decision was upheld. I really liked instant checkmate; that’s why I sent follow-up emails explaining myself rather than just subscribing to one of the other, arguably better, services available. I figured mistakes happen, the email robot had flagged the word “business” and acted, but a human would understand what had happened and everything would be corrected. I guess not. So, if you go with Instant Checkmate, you’ll be happy with the information their service provides, just don’t ever use the word “business” if you have to communicate with them. I suspect English is not their native tongue and they do not recognize the nuances of the language. Oh well. Lesson learned.
