Thunderly is a real-time weather visualization Chrome extension that renders lightning across a photorealistic globe. It combines live lightning with day/night cycles, real-time clouds, precipitation, and a one-hour history of storms to give you a global view of weather activity.

It offers interactive zoom for detail, a start–stop distance tool to estimate how far you are from a storm, and a playful feature to stream lightning via your camera flash from the opposite side of the world. There’s even a hidden real-time aurora switch for an extra wow factor.

This used to be my favorite weather app, especially for tracking storms. Sadly, I opened the app today because we have some really good storms in the area, only to see that it’s completely silent. I can see some weather clouds, but no thunder. No lightning. No haptics. Nothing. I checked the App Store and realized it’s been 6 years since the last update from the dev. It made me incredibly sad. I only wish this app would magically spring back to life. Definitely worth considering a subscription or something to breathe some life back into this app!
