User Reviews

KingDraw is praised as a free, capable structure-drawing tool that can aid chemistry teaching and act as a ChemDraw alternative on iPad. It shines for drawing molecules, assisting nomenclature, and exporting images for assignments. However, reviewers repeatedly cite subscription-driven storage limits, crashes and reliability issues, intrusive permissions, and the absence of a native iPad/Mac version. Overall, its educational value is strong, but pricing, stability, and platform gaps limit its appeal for long-term use.
Pros
  • Free app with many features and broad accessibility
  • Strong structure drawing and organic-chemistry naming assistance; a useful tool for students and teachers
  • Works on iPad and serves as a capable ChemDraw alternative
  • Allows saving/exporting images for assignments and teaching materials
Cons
  • Storage and saving limits tied to the subscription; free tier restricts saves and storage
  • Stability issues including crashes and app not opening
  • Privacy/permissions concerns (repeated clipboard access and Bitwarden paste prompts)
  • Lack of an official iPad-native (and broader platform) version; calls for iPad/Mac support

Long time ChemDraw user and thought I would try something free. This is horrible. Not intuitive at all. Just terrible to use. Don’t waste your time

Great alternative for ChemDraw and works on iPad. Totally love it! It would be nice if it could predict proton and carbon-13 NMR peaks.
