Overview

Features & Capabilities

Cake Wallet is a non-custodial, open-source crypto wallet that gives you complete control of your private keys and assets. Since 2018, it has made the hard parts of crypto easy with features like cross-chain swaps, a built-in exchange, simple buying and selling, and strong hardware wallet support, all wrapped in an intuitive privacy-focused design.

Security and privacy are built in: trustless software with no accounts, no analytics, and no logging; best-in-class Monero support; Litecoin MWEB; native Tor integration; and advanced features such as multiple wallets, background sync, and Cake Pay for everyday, username-based payments (ENS, Unstoppable Domains, FIO).

User Reviews

Users widely praise Cake Wallet for strong Monero/XMR support, privacy, and ease of self-custody, along with a generally trusted, secure design. However, multiple reviews highlight stability and reliability problems caused by frequent updates, including syncing issues, UI changes, and core functionality failures after updates. Some features have been reduced, such as gift card options, which also frustrate users. Overall, the app is favored by privacy-conscious users but reliability can be inconsistent after updates.
Pros
  • Strong Monero/XMR support and privacy features.
  • Easy, self-custody wallet with simple setup and use.
  • Security-focused privacy-first design with trusted reputation among users.
  • Widely trusted and generally recommended by multiple users.
Cons
  • Stability and reliability issues after updates: frequent UI/background code changes and syncing problems.
  • UI/UX criticisms: the new UI is considered confusing or unhinged by several reviews.
  • Core functionality failures following updates: inability to send/receive, missing transaction history, screen freezes and network-related transaction errors.
  • Feature reduction: removal of gift cards and other options reduces functionality.

I really want to use Cake Wallet because it is open source and supports Monero, but as a completely blind iPhone user, I simply can’t use it independently. VoiceOver accessibility is not where it needs to be. Many buttons are unlabeled or are announced simply as “Button,” making it impossible to know what they do. Navigation is inconsistent, focus sometimes jumps unpredictably, and some controls cannot be accessed or understood with VoiceOver at all. Tasks that should be straightforward, such as creating a wallet, sending funds, receiving funds, or navigating settings, become frustrating or impossible without sighted assistance. This is especially disappointing because a cryptocurrency wallet should allow users to maintain their independence and privacy. Blind users should not have to rely on another person just to manage their own money. I hope the developers prioritize accessibility by properly labeling controls, improving VoiceOver navigation, and testing the app with real blind users. Cake Wallet has the potential to be an excellent wallet for everyone, but until accessibility is taken seriously, I cannot recommend it to other VoiceOver users.

Every time I try to send money, the app says it is synchronizing. Support is of no help. Thus far, I have hard stopped the app multiple times. Still been syncing for hours. Going to move to another, more stable, wallet.
