User Reviews

Users praise Prequel's strong, flexible editing tools and intuitive interface for cinematic color grading. However, recurring concerns center on aggressive subscription practices: a hard limit of AI features (10 per week) under a weekly plan, widespread paywalls, and perceived value issues. Additional complaints include inability to save/export work or preserve presets behind paywalls, occasional glitches in video editing, and UI friction from recent feature changes. Overall, the app remains powerful and enjoyable for many, but users feel the cost and restrictions hinder steady, reliable use.
Pros
  • Intuitive, easy-to-use interface that makes editing quick and enjoyable.
  • Powerful, flexible editing tools with strong color grading and filter options.
  • Strong focus on cinematic editing, favored by long-time users.
  • Fun to experiment with and great for discovering different looks.
Cons
  • AI usage is capped at 10 uses per week under a paid plan, hurting value.
  • Subscription pricing and paywalls lock many features behind a recurring plan; reviewers feel the value is not justified.
  • Inability to save/export work or preserve presets, causing edits to be lost or require redoing work.
  • Frequent glitches and stability issues, including video stitching duplicates.
  • UI workflow friction from recent changes (dragging stickers/text on long videos) slows editing.

Most annoying editing app I’ve used which is unfortunate bc the filters are actually cool. Would’ve given them my money if it was more user friendly. The stickers are annoying to use and so are the texts. Not ideal for fun edits. If you don’t pay it doesn’t even tell you which tools are only for premium users so you can end up editing a whole picture you can’t even use unless you give them money. I don’t like feeling forced, it’s greed.

I used to love this app, i’ve been using it to edit videos for YEARS not minding that they charge you WEEKLY. but for the last couple of months I can barely use it for editing, every time I create a video it gets stalled at uploading and I have to end up recreating over and over again taking HOURS.
