Review summary

User reviews consistently describe the SXFI App as largely nonfunctional: it often fails to scan or recognize devices, and pairing is unreliable. The built-in music player is broken and music management is limited to local files, with streaming and file sourcing poorly supported. Compatibility with various headphones and Creative devices is inconsistent, and the ear/head mapping feature is buggy. A few users report rare improvements after updates, but the overall experience is frustrating and unreliable.
Pros
  • Automatic recognition/detection of compatible headphones after app updates (e.g., Zen Hybrid 2, Creative headphones).
  • Enabling SXFI features can improve sound in other apps for some headphones (Spatial Audio integration benefit).
  • Appears to offer some value for wired USB-C headphones, which users highlighted as a strength compared with typical headphone apps.
Cons
  • The app is largely nonfunctional for many users: it often fails to scan ears or head and does not recognize or pair headphones.
  • The built-in music player is broken and the app restricts music to a local library with no easy way to add or stream tracks.
  • Poor compatibility and integration across devices and brands; many headphones are not supported or not listed, and support for Creative devices is weak.
  • Head/ear mapping feature is unreliable and frustrating, with issues like a black camera/eye-tracking and awkward alignment requirements.
  • User onboarding and support are poor (account to try, limited or no support), with inconsistent messaging (e.g., advertised features vs. compatibility).

2025-07-15 Bs***** I cannot even use this app for my GC7 because when I go to do the head mapping, the camera is completely black. I have given it permission and everything and it still does not work.

2024-08-18 Db***** Don’t bother with this app, nothing on it works. It won’t scan your ears or head. You can’t play other streaming platforms though it - so what is it good for - absolutely nothing - say it again - absolutely nothing!

2024-06-14 Va***** Latest update found my Zen Hybrid 2 headphones automatically. I previously rated this app with 1 star because nothing seemed to work. The built in music player is still completely broken, and should just be removed entirely from the app. It seems like once my headphones’ SXFI capabilities were enabled, they started sounding better in other music apps like  Music. Confusingly, there is also a Creative app that provides equalizer functions, which overlap with the SXFI app equalizer, not to mention iOS always has equalizer presets. As someone who has taken college courses on DSP and signal filtering and op amps, the overlap of equalizers makes my head hurt. Anyway, I bringing the rating up to a 3 because it recognizes my Creative headphones now and that seems to have enabled them to “play nice” with other Spatial Audio technologies like Dolby Atmos. Before that happened, the headphones sounded intentionally muffled and too bass heavy with or without Spatial Audio enabled, like a piece of cardboard between the ear and the speaker.

2024-04-24 Mi***** This is probably one of the best apps to have if you use wired headphones, especially further USB-C headset. Most headphones don’t even have an app Support especially wired pair so it’s really nice to see that nowadays.

2023-12-14 un***** I’m not even gonna mention the pathetic uselessness of this bloatware, other reviewers already covered that. But tell me, have YOU tried to take a picture of your ear that has to line up perfectly with some arbitrary shape on the screen ? Here’s a hint - in my family we suffer from lack of EYEBALLS on our EARS. Please go ahead try it yourself and let me know how that went … how many tries it took YOU to give up on this solution looking for a problem ?

2023-09-05 Ta***** Creative, Please work on actually making your software functional. I have a sound blaster X4 and this is a totally useless feature because of how bad your software is. Thanks

2023-05-26 al***** I purchased a pair of Zen Air ear buds that claim to be SXFI ready. Loaded the SXFI app only to find that the Zen Air buds are not even on the list of creative products. On top of that they will not pair with my Galaxy 20 FE 5G. Only good thing is that they will pair with my I Pod Pro.
