User Reviews

XBell works as a basic video doorbell with quick setup and an easy-to-use app interface for seeing visitors and speaking to them. However, several recurring issues limit reliability: motion detection is unreliable and often delayed, cloud storage mostly does not work, and video is sometimes late to appear; battery life is short requiring frequent charging; and the mobile app is prone to crashes and bugs (including mic use). Overall it’s suitable for basic doorbell use but not ideal for security-focused needs; consider alternatives with stronger motion, cloud storage, and firmware support.
Pros
  • Fast and easy setup with a user-friendly app interface.
  • Basic doorbell with video that lets you see visitors and talk to them through the app.
  • Intuitive, easy-to-learn app interface.
  • Sufficient for basic doorbell use.
Cons
  • Motion detection is unreliable, often triggering randomly or missing people, with delayed recording.
  • Cloud storage rarely or never stores video; no consistent cloud-based video history.
  • Poor battery life requiring frequent charging.
  • Flaky app stability: crashes (including when using the microphone) and general bugs.
  • Video feed lag and delays between motion and viewing.

As a basic doorbell with video features this works acceptably. When someone rings the doorbell I can usually pull up the video an see who is there, and speak to them over the device. However, if you’re interested in this device for home security or the motion sensor capabilities I’d recommend another device. The motion sensor works intermittently at best. Sometimes it picks up when a person comes to the door, sometimes not. More often it is triggered by random movement in the yard. As others have mentioned, the lag between when the motion sensor is triggered and the camera starts recording is wide, typically resulting in the camera missing the actual activity at the door. Further, the cloud storage doesn’t work at all. Not once in the past year that I’ve had this device has anything ever been stored in a cloud server. In fact, the only thing that is ever recorded is the most recent motion capture, which is subsequently deleted within an hour. The device does not store any video long term unless you manually tell it to do so in the moment. That video is stored on a card in the device itself. Again, THERE IS NO VIDEO CLOUD STORAGE WITH THIS DECICE. Other more minor issues, the battery life is awful, requiring a charge once a week. I tried hooking it up to the power source with the original doorbell but that doesn’t provide enough power to charge the battery, so I have to remove the doorbell unit and charge it for a few hours each week. The video doesn’t always pick up when someone is at the door, the the doorbell alert sound on my phone goes on for way too long with no way to adjust the notification sound. In summary, as the most basic video doorbell, it’s an ok device, but if you’re looking for any kind of higher functionality like with a Ring or some of the more expensive models, I’d suggest spending a little more money and getting one that works correctly

So far so good. I am not sure you can add alert when battery is low? Also is it possible to buy a better and more powerful battery? It is run out in 2-3 months. I need something can last a 6 months or a year.
