भारत का IPC 1860 (IPC) दंड संहिता: यह भारतीय कानून का मुख्य हिस्सा है, जो अपराधों की परिभाषा और दंड निर्धारित करता है। यह 23 अध्याय और 511 धाराओं में विभाजित है और सेना पर लागू नहीं होता; जम्मू-कश्मीर में RPC लागू होता है।

The Indian Penal Code was drafted during British rule, primarily by the First Law Commission chaired by Thomas Babington Macaulay, and it came into force on 1 January 1862. It remains the basis of criminal law in India and influenced other former colonies; after partition, Pakistan continued with a similar code, while Bangladesh adopted its own variant. The Code has since been amended to address evolving criminal law.
