User Reviews

Users largely criticize Forest Tree Identification for being hard to use, failing to identify from photos, offering incomplete coverage of North American trees, and pushing paid features. The app has an extensive image library cited as an educational resource, but users report frequent misidentifications and inconsistent data, plus ads and stability issues. Regional filters are lacking, and the interface often hides content behind ads or a paywall. Overall, it's viewed as a useful learning tool with potential, but usability, accuracy, regional availability, and monetization barriers limit practical usefulness.
Pros
  • Extensive image library and tree image collection used as an educational resource.
  • Useful as an educational tool for learning about trees and recognizing characteristics; helpful for real-life identification.
  • When the leaves match, it can identify quickly and correctly in some cases.
Cons
  • Clunky, hard-to-use interface with stability issues (freezing, not staying open).
  • Poor reliability of identifications; frequent misidentifications and inconsistent data.
  • No strong support for photo-based identification; cannot snap photos or input partial information; relies on stock images.
  • Limited regional coverage; missing many North American species and regional filters; NA focus is weak.
  • Paid features and upsells (paywalls, scanner subscription) hinder use.

The app has not identified any tree correctly

More than half the right side is all about secondary languages. It was on Chinese, could not get it off the screen. Then it showed German. I can’t find local PNW trees at all, and there are no instructions. I’ve toyed with this for 30 minutes before heading out and I don’t see the apps utility. There must be a tutorial somewhere, right? Where is it? I really want to use this app.
