Features & Capabilities

With NFC Reader you can read tags, save them for later viewing, share them, save contacts, open URLs and more! Be advised: Reading NFC tags requires iPhone 7, 8, or X.

FAQ:

  • Will my iPhone work with NFC? That depends: iPhone 7 and up supports NFC reading and NFC reading only works when NFC tags are NDEF formatted. If you're not sure what that means, you can reach out to our support for more information.
  • Are NFC tags RFID tags? No, NFC NDEF tags are not RFID tags - this means your gym cards, debit/credit cards, hotel cards, etc aren't readable by this app.
  • Will this app help me pair to my speaker/router/camera/etc? No, this app doesn't support deep integrations into NFC enabled products - this app is intended to read NFC tags and display data within those tags. Some tags contain actionable data like website URLs, text messages, geotags, contact cards, etc.

User Reviews

User feedback on NFC-Reader is mixed. Many praise its UI and business-usefulness, and note it works on certain devices (e.g., Sony A6000, GTK-XB7). However, a large number report crashes on launch and broad compatibility issues, especially on older iPhone models or devices without CoreNFC, leading to inconsistent NFC reading. Overall success depends heavily on hardware, with usable results for some users and unusable experiences for others.
Pros
  • Considered one of the better NFC reader apps with a generally clean UI and usability.
  • Useful for business or retail use, enabling you to show product/retailer details and support traceability.
  • Has worked for specific devices/tasks on supported hardware (e.g., pairing Sony A6000 camera, GTK-XB7 speaker).
Cons
  • Crashes on startup or when opened on multiple devices, including iPads and iPhones.
  • Not compatible with older iPhone models or devices lacking CoreNFC; several reviews note limited device support.
  • Inconsistent NFC reading performance; many users report inability to read cards or scan successfully on their devices.
  • Some users report UI/promo mismatches (main screen differs from marketing images) as a minor annoyance.

I cannot read NFC cards with my iPhone using the app. I have multiple cards which can be read on other devices. I have also tested my phone's hardware by scanning the cards using the the iPhone Shortcuts app. So I know the cards are good, and the phone's NFC reader hardware works. But when I try to read the cards using the app with my phone and other phones, it does not work. Can you please help? I am giving 3 stars based on a nice UI and will increase to 5 if I get help to make it work or an explanation why it doesn’t work for me.
