Overview

Features & Capabilities

Messenger Kids — Made for Kids. Controlled by Parents. The app gives parents a dedicated dashboard to manage their kids' contact list and monitor messages. When kids block a contact, parents are notified, helping keep conversations safe.

Kids can enjoy fun filters, reactions, sound effects, stickers, GIFs, emojis, and drawing tools to express themselves during video chats with friends and family. There’s no phone number required to get started, and there are no ads or in-app purchases. Parents can set usage limits for bedtime. We’re always working to improve Messenger Kids. Visit messengerkids.com for feedback and more information.

User Reviews

Messenger Kids is valued for safe, parent-controlled communication that lets kids text and call family across devices and enjoy fun features. However, many reviews note reliability problems: frequent connectivity and audio issues, login friction, delays or bugs in messaging, and gates requiring parental approval to add contacts. Group chats are also limited. Users appreciate safety and family connectivity, but improvements to reliability, sign-in flow, and smoother contact management are needed.
Pros
  • Safety controls and parental oversight (block, report, remove friends; parent notifications).
  • Enables kids to text/call family and friends across devices, even if others don’t have Apple devices.
  • Fun features for kids (games, filters, stickers and photo effects).
Cons
  • Frequent connectivity and calling issues (stuck on connecting, audio problems, camera going black, lag).
  • Difficult login/sign-in and reliance on Facebook login or parent setup.
  • Requires parental approval to contact others, causing delays in communication.
  • Message delivery unreliability and occasional bugs (delayed messages, 'message cannot be displayed', notification glitches).
  • Group chat limitations (adding multiple friends requires mutual connections).

They took the games of of the FaceTime. And now me and my friends can’t play games with each other. I also don’t get notifications. I have had this app for 10 years and it’s been ok until now 😫😭😢😡
