Review summary

Users praise Flashcards Maker for free unlimited cards, strong study tools (quiz, bookmarks, color-coding, memo), easy organization, progress saving, and night mode. Common drawbacks are media limits (20 images), persistent subscription pricing, occasional crashes, input limits (character caps and no copy/paste), and cumbersome sharing of decks due to image transfer requirements.
Pros
  • Unlimited cards/decks/subjects available for free (no ongoing payments for core use).
  • Robust study features: quiz mode, bookmarking, color-coding, memo notes, and list/folder organization.
  • Easy to use and organize; intuitive UI with quick editing, duplicating, and moving cards.
  • Progress is saved and the app supports cross-device use (text sync and progress across devices).
  • Night mode for comfortable studying in low light.
Cons
  • Media limit: only 20 images per card/deck unless you upgrade, and photo syncing across devices is limited.
  • Subscription-based pricing with recurring fees and no one-time lifetime option; many features appear behind a paywall.
  • Stability issues: frequent crashes and performance problems (camera crashes, overheating, app closures).
  • Input limitations: low character limit and no copy/paste, making data entry time-consuming.
  • Sharing decks is cumbersome due to needing to transfer many images; not straightforward to share with classmates.

2026-05-03 Ni***** Absolutely love this app! I searched for so many flash card apps, because I’m very picky about my flash cards, and this was perfect for what I need. Unlimited cards/decks/subjects without having to pay a dime (so far anyway, but I’ve made MANY and haven’t reached a limit). I can star specific cards to focus only on cards I’m struggling with. So easy to use and organize. And I can write the info onto my cards with a pen and it types it up for me. Has a quiz filter and several other amazing tools. Only possible downside is there is a limit to how many pictures you can add without having to pay for an upgrade, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me. Cannot say enough amazing things and will be recommending to anyone who asks!!!

I had almost 1k of Flashcards, I was able to make them color coordinated, and even test myself within the app using its features, I was able to pass my state exam after using this app very often, thank you thank you. Only thing I tried to sync to my phone since I used an iPad, was unable to download sync, still was ok, grateful still. There was also a nighttime feature that I definitely used for when my eyes strained or extra studying at night. I was also able to check my answers which I got wrong wnich was a huge plus. Keep up the great work 💕

2025-12-28 Yu***** It’s a great app, but I don’t like the feature that you have to pay for you to input new images. It’s max is just 20 pictures and if you delete them it removes the image from all the flash cards. Other than that if you do end up, paying to use the app and having access to more than just 20 images, then it’s an amazing app.

2025-01-29 Li***** Ben was incredibly helpful when I couldn’t get the older version of this app to upload from my outdated iPad onto my new iPhone. I’m so delighted to use this great tool again without having to rewrite the 217 cards I had already created.

2025-01-26 Be***** The first thing that I love about this app is that it’s continually being improved by its developer(s). Anytime I want something added as a feature, I can send an email to the address listed on the support tab, and they respond right away. If my idea was something that could be implemented, they include it in the next update along with tons of other improvements. They really care about their users. Secondly, I love how easy it is. I’m learning Mandarin Chinese, which is a tonal language. For me, the most effective way to lean what tone a character is, is to color-code each card. There are other ways, but this is the most effective way for me to remember the tones. It’s extremely easy for me to just choose what color I want the card to be while I’m making it. The second thing I love is the ease of organizing the flash cards. I have multiple folders and within each folder I have many cards which I can then put in order using the “list” feature. With this feature I can also easily duplicate the card, move it to another folder, or delete the card. I love how easy it is to just mark (bookmark) the cards you want to be tested on. When I’m working on a particular Chinese lesson, I want to be able to easily mark the cards that are associated with just that lesson and test myself on those only, and I can do that in this app by simply clicking on the bookmark icon of each one. Then, when I move on to another lesson, I can unmark those and mark the new cards I want studied. With the “list” feature I can easily just go through and click all the cards I want marked or unmarked, without having to view each one individually. Chinese characters are very complex. The only way to remember some of them is to make note of which components make up the character. This is a lot of additional information that I don’t want on the card itself but I want to be able to view it easily if I need to. That’s where the “memo” feature really comes in handy. Some cards don’t need this additional info but some do, and it’s information that I don’t necessarily need all the time but sometimes I do. “Memo” is the perfect feature for that. When I want a quick review, I look over the cards as a list. The different colors and the bold text make them simply beautiful. When I want to carefully study each card, view the memo notes, view the picture if I’ve included one, and hear how each word sounds, I browse the cards normally. Then, when I’m ready to be tested, I go to the quiz feature, select which folder and how many cards, and off I go into a challenging multiple choice quiz that is just right for me. I have tried a lot of flashcard apps, but this is the one I will continually use. It is just right for me.

2024-06-02 Pi***** I purchased a rather expensive two dollar a month subscription for this app, based upon the promise that you were able to sync across devices. In point of fact, you can only sync text materials, but no photos. That seems strange since you are able to upload the entire Flashcards to the cloud, including photos. however, when I tried to sync the 100 or so cards I had created to my wife’s phone, the app then informed me that it would only sync text to another phone, not photos. I’ve then purchased a second subscription for my wife, hoping that would solve the problem, but was disappointed to find that no matter how many times I tried it would only allow me to download 20 of the over 200 photos that formed the foundation of the flashcards. On top of that, I experienced the same problem that people have been reviewing for over four years: that is, that the camera function will cause the app to close down after anywhere from 3 to 5 clicks of the camera. You then have to reopen the app and find your deck, and the particular card you were working on to start all over again. There are much better options out there that have been used by many many more people. in particular, I would suggest Flashcard maker: easy to use, BY Yoshinobu Ikeda. An annual subscription is only six dollars, and you can purchase a lifetime subscription for just $13. This one is not worth your time.
