Features & Capabilities

NFC Tap leverages iOS 17's NFC core to read and write ST25 Type4A/Type5 tags from iPhone 7 and later. It supports reading and writing user memory, reading NDEF records, an App Clip based on a URL, and a custom URL scheme nfctap:// to launch the app from other apps or Safari.

Tag-driven actions include connecting to Wi-Fi and BLE devices, opening URLs, saving contacts (vCard), geolocating in Maps, and initiating SMS/Email/Calls. It also demonstrates MIME and external NDEF examples and supports Bluetooth pairing with a ST25DV board.

User Reviews

User reviews praise a clean, readable UI and strong NFC development capabilities, plus stability after updates and good accessibility. However, recurring issues include bugs and reliability problems, high pricing, password handling failures for protected tags on iPhone, intrusive auto-scan prompts, and limited hardware compatibility (e.g., ST25). The app is valued for its utility but needs bug fixes, better tag/password handling, broader compatibility, and pricing adjustments.
Pros
  • Easy-to-read UI with simple navigation
  • Handy for NFC development and debugging (coreNFC, ISO15693 support)
  • Stable and reliable after recent updates
  • Very convenient and practical for reading/writing NFC tags
  • Good accessibility, including VoiceOver support
Cons
  • Expensive paid service / pricing concerns
  • Reliability issues: app can stop working or behave unpredictably
  • Password-entry bug for area-protected NFC tags on iPhone
  • Auto-scan prompt on app launch (intrusive UX)
  • Chip compatibility limitations (e.g., ST25) / general scanning issues
