User Reviews

Users like Sofa as a single hub for tracking media, and appreciate Sofa 5’s progress tracking, search improvements, and flexible lists. The strongest positives are consolidated tracking, good list organization, and logging capabilities. Recurring drawbacks across reviews are data loss and syncing reliability, a high subscription cost with gated features, a bloated UI, and incomplete item support with poor data portability.
Pros
  • Consolidated media tracking across books, movies, TV, games, and apps in a single app.
  • Flexible lists with grouping and reordering that support a workflow-oriented use.
  • Sofa 5 adds progress tracking, improved search, an upcoming tab, and persistent tab states.
  • Useful as a lightweight, focused lists tool for logging recommendations and future reads/watches.
  • Ability to rate, annotate, and log items in one place for later recall and planning.
Cons
  • Data loss and reliability issues (items or entire lists disappearing; backup/import failures).
  • Cross-device syncing bugs (duplicates, desync, iCloud sync quirks).
  • High price and premium features locked behind subscription; perceived poor value.
  • Bloated, less intuitive UI and feature creep that harms simplicity.
  • Incomplete item database and limited support for oddball formats, plus weak data portability/export options.

Settings is buried under lists, why? And when you first open the app it advertises a bunch of new features then gives no explanation on how to use them. This app is really annoying to use. Once I finally figured out how to import goodreads, hundreds of my books did not have matches despite them being popular bestsellers from the last few years. And with these items without a match, there is no option to search for the item to match or create a custom item. It just suggests a couple items to match which are never correct.

At its core, this is a very basic app. While it does bring all your media together in one place, it doesn’t really stand out. When you add movies, there are no community or critic reviews… just a summary and cast information. You can create “recipes” to add your own ratings and other details, but the overall experience feels limited. The app reminds me of the early days of the App Store, when simply having the basic functionality was enough. It works, but it lacks the depth, features, and community elements that many similar apps offer today. Not worth the subscription.
