Features & Capabilities

WeCroak is a mindfulness app highlighted by 10% Happier, Atlantic, and The New York Times. It helps you find happiness by contemplating mortality: each day you receive five invitations at randomized times to pause and reflect on death. The concept comes from a Bhutanese proverb that happiness grows when death is considered five times daily. When a notification arrives, you can open the app for a quote from a poet, philosopher, or thinker, and take a moment for conscious breathing or quiet reflection.

To fit modern life, WeCroak limits notifications to 7 AM–10 PM and encourages opening the app once per week to keep receiving your daily invitations. An optional Leap subscription adds a Daily Review tool, access to more impactful quotes, weekly mindfulness challenges, and the ability to create Memento Mori images from your photos. Leap costs $1.99 per month via Apple ID and auto-renews unless canceled; you can manage subscriptions in your App Store account settings. For more information, see the Terms and Privacy Policy.

User Reviews

Please improve the quotes because I used to love this app! I wholeheartedly love the concept of this app. In the beginning it was FULL of fantastic quotes surrounding death. After circulating many of the same quotes I upgraded. Unfortunately, while some quotes are still about death, now many are not at all. Just random quotes. Some don’t even make sense or are incomplete sentences. Some are misattributed. I think they might let high usage subscribers add their own to the general pool without vetting whether they are about life or death at all. I get there are a lot of quotes needed, but the point is to contemplate DEATH and DYING or living a good life and many just have nothing to do with the subject. I really do enjoy the daily reminder! I’m keeping it for sure. It wakes me up and helps me immediately focus on what is truly important. But I would love to see some regulation so my daily reminder can actually be about death.

Although the Bhutan ’tradition’ of contemplating your death 5 times a day may have been very helpful. I don’t think in this format it is appropriate. The format of a dopamine/cortisol spike plus the reminder you have to die… I believe that it has made my sui.cidal ideation worse or has brought a return of it. A friend of mine also experienced similar. Something to avoid or beware of.
