User Reviews

Users praise TCGplayer for its market-leading marketplace and price data, plus strong buying and collection-tracking features. However, repeated complaints center on a dysfunctional scanner, login and checkout friction, performance and UI bugs, and weaker collection management. Pricing discussions show some users favoring its valuations over CollectR, but reliability issues hinder day-to-day use. Overall, the app offers valuable buying and pricing capabilities, but scanner reliability and UX problems significantly affect the user experience.
Pros
  • Market-leading marketplace and strong purchasing portal
  • Accurate, multi-game price data helps price checks
  • Useful collection/price-tracking features (collection tab)
  • Good for buying individual cards and decks
  • Generally easy-to-use interface for non-scanner tasks
Cons
  • Scanner is unreliable and frequently breaks with updates
  • Checkout and payment issues (e.g., PayPal not loading) and frequent login prompts
  • App performance: lag, unresponsive UI, and crashes especially after updates
  • Weak collection management/UX and difficulty importing lists or syncing with desktop
  • Pricing data sometimes contested or inconsistent compared to other platforms (e.g., CollectR)

With most apps now allowing Face Log-in or just keeping you logged in, this one feels like it is behind the curveball now. I have to sign in every time I want make a purchase even when I have checked don’t ask on this device. The optimizer for trying to give you your “best deal” doesn’t always work correctly. Tested it with one card. It was an expensive card listed at $50. I hit optimize selected keep current condition so it would upgrade me or downgrade me and my price went from $50 to $66 because it wanted me to buy off of TCGplayer direct over another seller.
