Features & Capabilities

AIMS is designed for Veterans and military Service members but can be used by anyone coping with anger problems. The AIMS app is based on the Anger and Irritability Management Skills online self-help course (http://www.veterantraining.va.gov/aims/). The app provides you with education about anger, opportunities for finding support, the ability to create an anger management plan, anger tracking, and tools to help manage angry reactions. You can also create custom tools based on your preferences, and can integrate your own contacts, photos, and music. The AIMS app may be used alone, or in combination with the online course or in-person therapy

AIMS was created by VA’s National Center for PTSD and VA’s Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.

User Reviews

The app shows potential for anger management with practical tools and effective meditations, and several users report real benefits. However, reliability issues are widespread, including crashes, glitches, and truncated content. Data persistence in iCloud and device compatibility problems (especially on iPad/older iOS) further hinder use, as does a PC-only online course requirement. Overall, it can be beneficial when it runs smoothly, but significant usability and stability problems are common.
Pros
  • Helps users cope with anger and can improve relationships.
  • Provides practical anger-management tools and resources (triggers, logs, thermometer).
  • Meditations are effective and highly valued by users.
  • Appears beneficial for specific groups (veterans/ASD) due to targeted tools and a research-informed approach.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and glitches across features, including during meditation and launch.
  • Content is incomplete or truncated, with sentences cut off and unreadable.
  • Undeletable data in iCloud; privacy concerns due to persistent app/data that cannot be deleted.
  • Poor mobile/OS compatibility; struggles on iPad/older iOS and other devices.
  • PC-based online course requirement; not usable on mobile, adding accessibility barriers.

Similar to the review posted on this topic, I never download this app and it remains on my iCloud unwelcome and will not delete

I never downloaded this to my phone, as I don’t have anger problems and I’m not a vet, yet 1.8 KB of application data has mysteriously shown up in my iCloud storage folder and won’t delete no matter what. Eventually I did what it said on Apple tech support and downloaded the app for the first time in order to turn off iCloud backups and then delete the app and application data, but this also didn’t work. I’m very sketched out by an app created by the government suddenly appearing in my encrypted cloud storage and being undeletable, though hopefully it’s just a bug with iCloud.

I tried to use the app and started typing a trigger then pressed enter and now it's stuck in the app. Quite ironic when you consider what the app is designed for. I would suggest allowing users to delete any items that they enter into the app.
