User Reviews

Seasonal Food Guide is praised for its region-specific, in-season information with helpful photos and tap-through details. Many users find the concept useful for learning about local produce and seasonal changes, and the design is visually appealing. However, the app suffers from persistent usability and reliability issues: filters and location data don’t persist, back navigation is weak, it can bug or freeze, and there’s no search or saved preferences. Regional options can also be unclear or incomplete. Overall, strong idea hindered by stability and usability problems.
Pros
  • Shows what's in season by state/region, helping users plan and shop for seasonal produce.
  • Includes photos of the produce and extra information when you tap an item, aiding identification.
  • Useful concept and overall helpful for learning about seasonal produce in your area.
  • Visually appealing design and well-presented content.
  • Supports search by region, specific produce, and time of year, aiding discovery.
Cons
  • Filters and location data do not persist; users must re-enter state and month, and selections can be erased.
  • Back navigation is weak or missing; returning from a detail view often takes you to the top of the list.
  • The app is buggy and clunky, with freezes, random item selections, and mis-taps.
  • No in-app search or saved preferences; no accounts, making it hard to filter or persist settings.
  • Regional options can be unclear or incomplete (e.g., DC not supported; ambiguous central/north/south options).

I love that you can see what’s in season in your state, the photos of the produce (so if it’s something you’ve never had it’s easier to find it in the store), and the additional info when you tap on the produce type. My suggestions for improvement: - Let users set their location ‘permanently’, so you don’t have to select your location every time you open it. - Have it select the current month by default, or introduce an option for that. Selecting the current date every time you open the app is frustrating. - Have a couple of viewing options. The large photos are nice, but make it very hard to see at a glance what all the items are (it’s a long way to scroll to the bottom). I’d personally like two compact columns with just a name and image. - Have it return to your place on the list when returning from the detail page for a particular produce type. Currently it returns you to the top of the list, and since it’s a very long list that means a LOT of scrolling. Thanks for a cool app :)
