User Reviews

Waterspeed is highly regarded for deep, water-sports specific tracking, rich data, and strong Apple Watch support with easy cross-platform sharing. The developer team is responsive and actively updates the app. However, users repeatedly note upgrade prompts and Pro gating, usability issues with wet or cold hands (editing/deleting/trimming), occasional data gaps or tracking stops, and slow or unreliable syncing (especially from Apple Watch). Battery drain is also a concern. Overall it’s a powerful tool for water athletes, but monetization and UX friction can deter some users.
Pros
  • Powerful, sport-specific tracking with rich data (GPS route, distance, speed metrics, heart rate, wind/wave context) and a session diary.
  • Excellent Apple Watch support and seamless cross-device syncing.
  • Strong developer support and frequent updates/improvements.
  • Good ecosystem integration (Strava sync, map exports) and multi-sport applicability.
  • Designed for water sports and supporting a wide range of activities, with ongoing feature additions.
Cons
  • Persistent upgrade prompts and Pro feature gating that some users find pushy or opaque.
  • Usability issues with wet or cold hands, making editing, deleting, and trimming difficult.
  • Occasional data gaps or tracking stops (e.g., missing details in waves, sessions dropping).
  • Slow or unreliable syncing from Apple Watch and with Strava integration.
  • Battery drain concerns during use.
Recent reviews
I have been using this app paired with Apple Watch Ultra for many years now . The recent version updates introduced a few undesirable features, there have been more false app starts, unintended pauses, annoying milestone notifications, etc. The user experience has deteriorated.

Used for over 400 sessions now. Pro member. Loved it from the start and it just keeps improving! The newest interface is great! Thanks so much!

Most apps make it extremely difficult to delete a track—Waterspeed, especially when fingers are cold or wet, makes it incredibly easy to delete a track while trying to export it. Also if you are in waves it will easily miss details of a run…you may be able to fix this by adjusting sample rates…
