Users largely agree KeyCafe offers convenient, contactless key access that simplifies hosting for cleaners and guests, and can be painless when it works. However, reliability is a major issue across many reviews: hardware and software frequently go offline or fail to load, onboarding and privacy hurdles frustrate users, the system relies on constant connectivity, and customer support is often slow or unhelpful. When functioning, it’s a strong idea; when not, it causes significant hassles and cancellations.

Frequent hardware/offline issues and codes not working, making keys inaccessible.
App stability problems: loading failures and unresponsive interfaces (especially on iOS).
Onboarding and privacy burden: mandatory account creation (email/phone/2FA) and broad data collection, plus forced app downloads in some contexts.
Reliance on constant internet connectivity; when offline, the system can’t operate.
Inadequate customer support and slow resolution times during outages.

No way to turn off auto refill so once you start using the app you’re stuck always with a balance of more than 25$.

I have tried to use this system when staying at a rental property four times now (so, picking keys up four times, dropping them off four times) and it has not worked on any of those occasions. It literally just does not work. Sometimes the system is off-line, sometimes the touchscreen just doesn’t respond, sometimes the codes don’t work, and so on. I’m a fairly tech savvy person and I don’t believe the error is on my end. Each time I have called support and spent 30-60 minutes being walked through various trouble shooting steps. I assume this would be a good system if it were reliable, but in my experience, it is not.
