Features & Capabilities

Thimbleweed Park is a brand-new adventure game from Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, creators of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. Play as five characters whose fates intertwine in a quirky, haunted town as you uncover a surreal mystery. Not a walking simulator, the game blends satisfying puzzles with a twisty narrative set in 1987.

Features include five playable characters who can cooperate or clash, a vast world to explore at your own pace, retro humor every couple of minutes, multilingual subtitles, and casual or hard modes. A 1980s-style hint line helps with puzzles if you want it, while the story and puzzles stay with you long after you finish.

User Reviews

Fans praise Thimbleweed Park for its nostalgic LucasArts feel, witty writing, art style, and solid puzzles with helpful hints. Recurrent concerns on iOS/iPadOS include device-locked saves with no cross-device sync, crashes and display/scale issues, touch-precision frustrations, pacing/ending criticisms, and no built-in controller support. Despite mobile UX challenges, the game remains beloved by fans who want more adventures and see it as a polished homage to classic era point-and-click games.
Pros
  • Nostalgic LucasArts-style point-and-click vibe with witty writing, pixel art, and voice acting.
  • Strong puzzles with multiple difficulty modes and a built-in, helpful hint system.
  • Engaging story and memorable characters delivered with high production polish.
  • Great value for money given the expansive content and replayability.
  • Overall faithful homage that resonates with fans of classic adventure games.
Cons
  • Saves are device-locked with no cloud/iCloud cross-device sync or export options.
  • Mobile performance and display issues: crashes on some iPads, scaling/letterboxing on newer iPhones, and occasional sound problems.
  • Touch controls can require very precise taps, making progress frustrating on phones/tablets.
  • Ending and pacing criticized by some players as anticlimactic or uneven.
  • Lack of controller support on mobile; calls for better controller/UX options.

I had a great time solving puzzles, playing as multiple characters and solving a pretty complex story. It reminds me of many days playing Monkey Island. Love the jokes, the ease of the game play, and the hint system that I tried really hard not to use. Great voice work too!

Thimbleweed Park is just a fantastic throwback to the point and click era of gaming. Witty humor, clever puzzle, interesting setting, it’s got all the hallmarks of great adventure games. Plus, nods to X-files and other old school stuff. Please, make more of Thimbleweed, or similar!!!! So. Much. Fun. MOOOOORRREEE! PLEEEEEEAAAAAASSEEE!
