However, its value is undercut by aggressive ads and features gated behind a subscription, which leaves some functionality inaccessible unless you pay.

I downloaded this app to help me play Breath of the Wild, but when I opened the map, all I saw was the map with shrines and towers and all that. I was excited to see the quests and recipes and stuff, but literally EVERYTHING (no exaggeration) was under a “locked” tab. When I clicked on it, it said that I had to get the subscription in order to access it, like what? Don’t make the app free if you’re just gonna lock everything behind a subscription. Don’t download unless you’re prepared to pay a lot of money, you can just use a website for this stuff for free.
