Features & Capabilities

The Flame Boss Chrome extension lets you remotely monitor and control your Flame Boss Wi‑Fi smoker from your browser. View temperature graphs for current and past cooks, set pit temperatures, configure text alerts, and toggle pit and meat alerts. You can share cooks on Facebook and Twitter and enable an automatic warming temp when meat finishes.

Keep your cooks organized by adding personal titles and notes for future reference, changing the device PIN, removing shared access, and making cooks private. The extension also integrates with the MyFlameBoss.com web app for extended control and convenience.

User Reviews

Many reviews say Flame Boss hardware is solid, but the iPhone app now struggles with connectivity, unreliable readings, and missing alerts after updates. Users report needing to restart the app, being unable to set temps freely, and data/history issues, with support often too slow. A browser interface offers a workaround, but most want software fixes or a return to the prior reliable experience.
Pros
  • Historically reliable device with easy connectivity when the app worked.
  • Past versions provided simple setup and straightforward control.
  • Remote monitoring and alerts worked when functioning, giving cooks confidence.
  • The browser-based interface provides a reliable workaround when the mobile app fails.
  • Overall, the Flame Boss hardware and concept have been solid for years before the issues.
Cons
  • Frequent connectivity issues and required restarts to get readings.
  • Alerts and notifications stop working in the background; app must be open to trigger them.
  • Updates caused instability with Wi‑Fi pairing and device recognition.
  • Temperature setpoint limits introduced by updates (e.g., cannot set below 140–150°F).
  • Poor or slow customer support, with reports of limited phone support.

After several updates the app still having communication problems to be able to see the temps I need to close and reopen the app constantly. Yesterday also I used the last update and now I can't set the meat temp below 140 F. Before was 100 F. For me is very important because I do a lot of reverse searing. Maybe is time to start my search for a new controller.

Unfortunately, the most recent round of updates for this app have rendered the alert system useless. It no longer will update you with your meat temp or the pit temp via text or messaging unless you have the app actively open. Why would I need alarms or messaging if my phone is on and the app is open. My confidence in this unit’s ability to alert me if my pit is having a problem or my meat has reached the desired temperature has fallen to nearly 0. Without a fix for this via update on the software, I would look at precision temperature or a different grill control device.
