Features & Capabilities

The Abbott Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) is a slim device that continuously monitors heart rhythm and records events as configured by your doctor. The myMerlin™ app securely transmits this information on a doctor-defined schedule and provides a user-friendly way to record symptomatic events, view past and upcoming transmissions, and stay connected with your clinician.

Note: The app will only function when paired with an Abbott ICM implant (prescription required). Some ICM models support remote updates to monitoring settings by a healthcare provider. The app does not provide health services or medical advice; contact your healthcare provider with any medical concerns.

User Reviews

Reviews show a mixed experience. Some users find myMerlin easy to use and helpful for recording symptoms for doctors, with night-time transmissions working and newer hardware offering longer battery life. However, many reports focus on reliability: the app crashes frequently; pairing the loop recorder is unreliable, sometimes failing after iOS updates; manual symptom logging is limited or removed; transmission status is unclear as histories can be blank; and the startup sound is disruptive and cannot be silenced. Overall, reliability and data transparency are the main concerns.
Pros
  • Easy to use and helpful for recording symptoms for doctors
  • Night-time data transmissions can work well, aiding monitoring
  • Some users report the app works as needed and supports their monitoring setup
  • Newer hardware reportedly offers longer battery life, improving use
  • Overall, when functioning, the app provides useful symptom logging and monitoring support
Cons
  • Frequent crashes or random closures, causing interruptions and frustration
  • Unreliable pairing/connection with the loop recorder and issues after iOS updates
  • Limited or removed manual symptom logging options, hindering clinician review
  • Unclear data transmission status with histories sometimes showing as blank
  • Disruptive startup sound/jingle that cannot be silenced in normal use

This app is terrible at best, as is your OR REP who misled me when I agreed to have the device implanted. This app froze and I was unable to get it to function at all, so I tried to delete the app, which I did… but I was unable to reinstall it. Apparently it still exists but the icon disappeared when I deleted the app and I can’t download it but I can open it from the App Store. No time to continue!!!!!

I try to keep the app up and running in the background, and I check it often to make sure it still is. However- for the last week or two it’s been closing randomly many times through the day, which is frustrating.

This device and app are as useless as you can ever possibly imagine as a patient. Sure, good on you for making the money to monitor the actual time we die, but this device and app are totally useless to us as patients.
