User Reviews

Speechify offers text-to-speech to help reading and study, which many users find useful. However, the reviews frequently cite high costs and paid access, limited library availability, inconsistent voice quality, and recurring bugs and support challenges, which significantly affect user satisfaction.
Pros
  • Helps with reading and increases productivity, especially for school.
  • Text-to-speech narration lets users listen to books and documents.
  • Some users find the paid version worth the cost and helpful overall.
Cons
  • High cost and paid model; many features require a subscription or per-book payments; users report surprise charges.
  • Library availability is limited; not all titles are in library and some books require extra purchases to read.
  • Voice quality and accuracy issues; AI voices mispronounce, lose place, or fail on non-standard formats.
  • Frequent bugs and reliability problems; issues with sign-in, syncing, and cancellation; mixed experiences with support.

This app gradually becomes strategically incapable of pronouncing words properly or understanding how to interpret basic contextual information, often abandoning the clear intent of common words to read them as randomly occurring alternate languages. For example, any sentence with the word “I” in it is most often going to be spoken as if it were “The 1st” from an ordinal list or “I” as if it were a Roman numeral. This has gotten progressively worse and it doesn’t’t honor manual pronunciation corrections saved in the iPhone keyboard settings, nor does it have a simple way to correct those errors in the app itself. Also, the offline voices are restricted to a tiny set of really irritating obnoxious ones instead of all the built-in iOS options. This is a garbage cash-grab app that I will happily cooperate with any AG office investigations related to targeted product feature degradation intended to create user frustration or false advertising violations. The app would be great except for the developer’s intentionally abusive feature handicapping. And the price is astronomical… they should be ashamed of exploiting the market this way.

Seems great until they end the introduction because then you can only have robotic voices read to you unless you get the stupid premium costs like 20 bucks a month or something do not recommend also have to pay to read the entire book do not get this app unless willing to pay!!!
