User Reviews

Reviews are mixed. Many users praise calimoto for quick round-trip/loop planning, strong planning and ride-tracking, and the ability to discover twisty roads and save/share routes. Real-time telemetry is a plus in some scenarios, and customer support is noted as responsive. However, recurring concerns appear: the subscription price and testing friction before paying; unreliable navigation that lacks upcoming street names and struggles with closures/detours; frequent bugs and stability issues (crashes, login problems, ride duplicates); CarPlay and general device integration problems. Value and reliability are the main blockers.
Pros
  • Strong round-trip/loop route planning that quickly creates looped or custom routes.
  • Good for planning and tracking rides, with the ability to save and share rides.
  • Effective at finding twisty roads and new routes riders wouldn’t discover otherwise.
  • On-ride telemetry and real-time speed data can be useful, especially when other instruments fail.
  • Responsive customer support noted by users.
Cons
  • High subscription cost and testing friction; hard to test before paying.
  • Missing street names for upcoming turns and general map accuracy issues (wrong/missing details, detours/closures not avoided).
  • Bugs and instability (crashes, black screen after updates, ride duplicates, login issues).
  • CarPlay and device integration problems (CarPlay not working as well as the phone app).

The app does not recognize stop signs or stoplights, which causes multiple issues when navigating and following directions. On several occasions, road design combined with app errors led to conflicting guidance: the audio navigation told me to turn one direction, while the visual route on the screen displayed the opposite. For example, the mapped route would show a right turn, but the voice navigation would tell me to turn left. The left turn isn’t visible on the map yet and is actual after the intersection however the app doesn’t recognize the intersection. So it gives directions as if the light it stop sign is the turn. Additionally, because the app doesn't understand that you are sitting at a red light or a stop sign, it will aggressively urge you to turn while you are stuck waiting in the middle of an intersection. To make matters worse, if you happen to miss a turn, it completely deletes your next via point. You almost have to ignore the audio directions entirely and just look at the map. This is a major design flaw and is highly dangerous. The second issue—also stemming from the app’s inability to recognize intersections with lights and stop signs—is that it frequently routes you onto major roadways where you end up sitting in traffic for unrealistic lengths of time. If you still decide to use this app, you have to manually verify your routes based on your own local knowledge to determine if a route is actually efficient. I will not be using this app in any unfamiliar areas; you simply never know if it is going to put you on a heavily congested main road with lights at every intersection or a wide-open country road.

I love this app for creating quick rides in my area without much planning. I do wish I could pick time instead of distance as a variable. I would love to be able to take a shorter but twistier ride. Right now I have to play around with distance and direction to get it right when I only have a certain window of riding time.
