User Reviews

Pass for iOS is praised as an open-source, cost-free password store that works across Linux, macOS, and iOS via a Git/SSH/PGP workflow with offline syncing. It’s generally reliable and offers a native-feeling UI with strong security. Common downsides are update-related stability issues on iOS, some confusion around Git repo handling and saving, and sparse setup documentation. Overall, it’s a capable, privacy-focused choice for users comfortable with self-hosted workflows, with room for smoother onboarding and stability improvements.
Pros
  • Open source and free; no SaaS fee
  • Cross-platform, git-based password store with SSH/PGP support and offline syncing
  • Reliable, stable performance that doesn’t get in the way
  • Strong security posture with self-hosted git backups and offline file transfer
  • Well-designed iOS interface that feels native and polished
Cons
  • Occasional update-related crashes or compatibility issues on iOS/iPadOS (e.g., crashes after updates)
  • Git integration quirks: unclear where the repo is stored/cloned and some in-app save limitations or libgit2/git dependency issues
  • Documentation/setup gaps: lacking step-by-step instructions for key setup and cloning the repository

updated entry doesn't push to git repository? and there's no option in the UI to save? and no idea where it clones the git repo to?

For someone who uses the pass command on my Linux and MacOS computers, this app is a godsend. I’ve been using this app for about 5 years and it does exactly what it says, works extremely well, and doesn’t ever get in your way. I’ve tried tons of different password managers which hound you on upsells and look like crap. This app does one thing and does it well, while looking good in the process. It looks like it belongs right in iOS and is one of my favorite tools in my iOS toolbox. Thank you for building this, you have made my life with pass so much easier!
