Review summary

Dining Note: Simple Diet Diary is praised for its simple, no-frills design that makes logging meals easy and non-judgmental. It helps with accountability and habit-building thanks to a clear daily view and calendar trends. Most downsides center on the free version’s ads and the desire for additional features, such as on-the-spot photo capture and basic analytics (time stamps, weight graphs, symptom tracking) which are requested by multiple reviewers. Overall, users value the straightforward experience but hope for more analytics without heavy calorie-counting.
Pros
  • Simple, no-frills diary that’s easy to use.
  • Helps with accountability and forming habits via a quick, at-a-glance view of daily choices.
  • Flexible entry options with notes, exercise, water, and a calendar view for past days.
  • Clean design and straightforward interface; easy to navigate.
  • Free tier is usable with an optional upgrade for more features.
Cons
  • Ads on the free version can be intrusive; multiple reviews mention lots of ads.
  • Missing the ability to take photos in the moment (only photo library) and to save photos locally.
  • Users would like more analytics/features (time-stamping meals and weight tracking graphs; symptom tracking) which are requested by multiple reviewers.

2026-07-28 Db***** I have multiple comorbidity diseases. What I should eat is very limited. With Dining Note I am able to see what I ate. I don’t have to show anyone! If I ate something bad for me, I can work on changing that habit. The best thing is how easy it is to use. I don’t want to know nutrition facts. I want to remember what I put in my mouth. I highly recommend this app.

2026-07-15 To***** Great and easy to use. A couple bugs, most annoying is that there is a picture icon that makes it seem like you should be able to log a picture of your food, but it does nothing. (I checked the app permissions and there is no option to give it camera access, so it’s just an unbuilt feature.) would have reported this instead of putting it in the review, but the website doesn’t work. But yeah, for the most part it’s great and I really like it.

2026-06-28 Sh***** The app is straightforward but despite its simplicity, it glitches frequently. It appears there is an option to attach photos. When a photo is selected the app instantly closes. 🤔 My hope is that problem is corrected soon. I appreciate how intuitive the app is to operate; it just needs to stay open long enough to receive entries. 🤞🏻⚓️

2026-05-17 xM***** Is there not a widget option? This is the only thing missing for me. I wanted a simple organized way to write my food down without all the trackers. So it’s great! Just wish I could put it on the Home Screen as a widget

2026-03-16 ak***** I had lost almost 40lbs - I knew that I didn’t want to continue counting calories, but I did want to start keeping some kinda’ diary of what I was eating everyday to stay accountable. This app is simple but effective. Just what I was looking for! I highly recommend.

2026-03-02 Tx***** A simple no-frills way to write down what you eat and drink in a day (there is even a place for exercise if you want to jot that down too). I second the suggestion of being able to take a photo in the moment vs only choosing from your photo library. I also suggest moving the water and coffee trackers out of the “snack” tab and into the “drink” tab. Having some way to enter the time you ate would be helpful too. (Instead of just writing it in the note - if it were a separate metric then you could better analyze/track when you eat.) That being said, not a bad app! Thanks for making it simple and totally accessible at the free tier.
