Calibre Companion (CC) is three applications in one: a device-based Calibre library organizer, a high-performance WiFi-based device emulator, and a Calibre content server with cloud provider client support (Dropbox and OneDrive). It lets you view a book's metadata, sort by metadata, view lists by cover or list, mark books read and sync with Calibre, and launch your reader app.

CC can connect to Calibre over WiFi as a detected device, allowing you to move books to and from your device with Calibre and keep metadata in sync. It can also connect to Calibre’s content server or to your cloud providers to browse and download books. Note: CC is not a reader app—you must install a separate reader app and Calibre to manage your library.

I decided to uninstall this app because of how many ads I was seeing, and was a little surprised to see that I’d apparently been paying $1.99/mo for this app. I couldn’t find any details of the subscription (or any way of managing it) in the app or its settings, and it still displayed a ton of ads anyway. Trying to use this for any purpose that requires switching to another app (even just to authenticate with a cloud provider) causes the app to reset the connection and revert to the home screen. This makes using it with OneDrive nearly impossible, since the login requires jumping out of the app to authenticate. I find simply accessing my Calibre content server through the browser to be more effective than this.

This was once an excellent app, but the greedy jerks who make it have added the World’s Most Annoying ads, holding you hostage for fixed amounts of time before you can view details about your books while they force-feed you horrible, tedious, annoying ads. I will be looking for a replacement for this app ASAP.
