Rockd

Rockd is a Chrome extension for geoscientists and curious learners to explore, document, and learn from the geologic record. It provides instant location-based summaries, access to hundreds of geologic maps, a dynamic 3D globe, offline map caching, and a simple way to log observations from the field.

The extension integrates paleogeography layers (C.R. Scotese, GPlates), Macrostrat stratigraphic data (beta), and literature mentions via xDD (GeoDeepDive). It also offers elevation data from digital elevation models, offline note-taking, strike/dip recording with a phone compass, private progress tracking, and shareable check-ins. Rockd is developed by the Macrostrat lab at UW–Madison with NSF support; support is available at contact@rockd.org.
