Features & Capabilities

OBD2 Expert is a versatile vehicle diagnostics tool that helps you reveal problems before a trip to the garage. Connect a BLE or WiFi OBD2 adapter, view current sensor data, load diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and inspect freeze frame data from the moment an issue occurred. The app also analyzes monitors and mode 6 diagnostics where supported to provide deeper insights.

It supports offline testing by loading vehicle status files, lets you share your vehicle state with others for collaboration, and includes developer and learning modes: use as a BLE-OBD2-ScanTool, or bridge BTLE/WiFi to inspect protocol communications. Note hardware compatibility: it does not work with Bluetooth 2.x/3.x adapters; the project is intended for ongoing improvement with user feedback via the Support URL.

User Reviews

Overall, reviews are overwhelmingly negative. The three core issues are that the app requires payment to even connect to an OBD2 adapter, has widespread connectivity problems with various Bluetooth/Wi-Fi devices, and delivers little or no live data unless unlocked. Additional concerns include an outdated, unmaintained product, and frequent accusations of deceptive marketing and scams with refund requests. A tiny minority report it works after paying the pro upgrade and praise customer support, but this is far from the majority experience.
Pros
  • A small number of users report the app works after purchasing the pro upgrade.
  • A reviewer praised the vendor's customer support and said the app works as advertised.
  • The pro upgrade is perceived by some users as worthwhile.
Cons
  • Pay-to-connect: you must pay to even connect to a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi OBD2 adapter.
  • Frequent connectivity failures with various adapters and 'not an adapter' errors.
  • Lacks live data or usable code reading unless you unlock features.
  • Outdated and unmaintained (no meaningful updates for years).
  • Many reviews describe it as deceptive/scam-like with refund requests.

Purchased the OBD2 app to scan trouble codes. I hooked it up to an Elm Wi-Fi adapter, got it connected, but does not seem to read any codes or do anything beyond identify the vehicle. No settings or instructions. I purchased it as I thought it could read and clear codes. It does less than free apps currently. Maybe I’m missing something.
