User Reviews

Users praise SecuritySpy for stability, strong macOS/Apple TV integration, RTSP camera support, and motion-detection features, plus handy usability tweaks. Recurrent downsides center on playback limitations (no visual scrubbing), poor date-based navigation, server/port configuration issues, and post-update bugs that hamper UX and reliability. Overall, it’s a solid remote monitoring solution with ongoing developer support, but playback, navigation, and reliability flaws are the main recurring complaints.
Pros
  • Stable, long-term support with active developer involvement and frequent updates.
  • Excellent RTSP camera compatibility (e.g., Amcrest, Reolink) with solid streaming and AI motion detection.
  • Strong macOS ecosystem integration and reliable companion apps (Apple TV, iOS) for remote monitoring.
  • Useful quality-of-life features (audio button, improved layout, built-in alarms) that enhance usability.
  • Proven real-time monitoring and easy access to playback/review across devices.
Cons
  • Playback scrubbing is severely limited (no visual scrub; only short seek jumps, e.g., five seconds).
  • Date/time navigation and search are cumbersome (no all-dates option; require day-by-day scrolling).
  • Connection and server reliability issues (troubles with port forwarding/retaining port; server list limits).
  • Post-update UI/UX bugs affect usability (rotation issues, file search failures, camera selection reset on resume).
  • Occasional performance/reliability hiccups (slow to load feeds, intermittent stability).

This program should have a dashboard for both the iPhone and in my case, MacBook Pro. There should be a simple and clear way to turn the cameras on and off, on the mobile, without having to shut the program off from the laptop. Instead, I’m left dealing with a computer that wants to report motion as I’m trying to close the program in order to silence the notifications. This all could look cohesive and act in a refined and professional manner. We’re paying a good amount for this software and it should look like it. Thank you.

This app has pretty basic functionality and kind of works ok. I noticed that playback doesn't work right. It will work the first time, but when you rewind to view again it gets stuck and won't play. The developer isn't giving this app the attentions it deserves. Running ios 26.2.1 on an iphone 17.
