use square and hexagonal grids (also allows ants which travel to all 8 directions in its Moore neighbourhood)
precisely place as many ants on grid as you like
map ant direction to MIDI voices or drum samples to hear the interaction of chaos, reflection, symmetry, periodicity as music.
