User Reviews

PowerOne is praised as a powerful, feature-rich financial calculator with an extensive templates library and strong cross-device usability. However, the most frequent issues are a subscription-based model that locks basic features, changes from older versions (layout, history, templates), and various UI/bug problems. Overall, value depends on tolerance for ongoing payments versus a one-time license.
Pros
  • Powerful, versatile financial calculator with time-value-of-money tools and Excel-like capabilities.
  • Extensive, customizable templates library and programming features for a wide range of calculations.
  • Long-standing, highly regarded app with a reputation as the best financial calculator on iOS.
  • Responsive customer support that resolves issues and provides fixes.
  • Good cross-device usability on iPhone and iPad.
Cons
  • Subscription/paywall blocks basic use and requires ongoing payments for premium features.
  • Changes from older versions (layout, history display, and templates) reduce usability and familiarity.
  • UI/bugs in newer builds (overlays obscuring the calculator, instability, and navigation issues).
  • Some users lose access to previously purchased features or feel pushed toward subscription instead of a one-time buy.
  • Value concerns due to the cost of recurring fees versus one-time licensing.

I’ve had the earlier version of this on my iPad for years. I’ve written dozens of templates for custom applications I used in the office. I was aware that they were no longer supporting it, but when I had to restore my iPad, it couldn’t download the app because they took it off the server. That’s the Apple server, the App Store. And all this because they weren’t charging for the first one and discovered that they could charge for the second one. They’re lame excuse “due to a massive server, crash“ was such a cop out. I’m a programmer and you know exactly how these things work. It’s a total cop out and now I’ve lost a good calculator. I would gladly pay a flat fee for the original version to be able to restore all the templates I have written.

PLEASE READ THIS, The old app was way nicer! So handy to flip back and forth from loan to savings. History was better. Displayed on calculator screen. Now it’s not and when you go to history it’s a nightmare to read it. New version is just BAD. I would pay to get old version back!

The dev got back to me with an easy fix involving logging out & back in on my other device. It’s now a great app again with all my library intact! One of my most useful apps because I like to write my own single-purpose calculator mini-apps. Example: What percent of 283 is 47?
