Features & Capabilities

Seats is a classroom management app that makes smart seating charts and selects volunteers just like you would, but faster and easier. And new in Version 2, Seats has several attractive and customizable ways of showing a map of your classroom.

You can arrange students into rows or groups based on what's important to you: • Chatty students will be separated from other chatty students. • Students who do better in the front row will be placed there. • Groups can be created with diverse (or similar) ability levels.

Need a volunteer? Seats can keep track of who is participating and will randomly select students to pick, prioritizing those who aren't as involved.

Seats can be used for up to 2 courses with complete functionality, or unlimited courses can be unlocked with an in-app purchase.

User Reviews

Overall, reviewers like Seats: Smart Seating Charts for its behavior-tracking features (noting chatty students), front-row seating flags, and easy export/printing of charts. However, they repeatedly encounter major drawbacks: a rigid, template-based layout with little room for customization or drag-and-drop arrangement; challenges adding or editing students and managing rosters; a limited free trial with a puzzling $2 upgrade that many feel is not worth it; and occasional data issues such as participation counts not persisting between days. The app shows promise but needs improvements in flexibility and reliability.
Pros
  • Ability to note and separate chatty students and track behaviors.
  • Front-row seating flags and other placement notes to influence charts.
  • Easy exporting/sharing of charts via email or printing.
  • Low-cost one-time upgrade (about $2) compared to subscription models.
Cons
  • Rigid seating layouts with limited customization; few templates and no drag-and-drop.
  • Difficulties adding/editing/removing students and managing rosters.
  • Limited free trial (2 classes) and confusing upgrade model with a $2 unlock.
  • Data issues like participation counts not persisting between days.

I am not able to edit students easily or even to delete multiple students simultaneously. Also not able to maneuver seating as desired. Wasted my money

I was massively disappointed when the happy class app disappeared because I used it to make random-but-not-too-random seating charts. This is the next closest thing I’ve found after scouring the internet and for those who are complaining about having to pay $2 to unlock more sections, it’s literally a one time $2 payment as opposed to happy class which charged $15 annually. There was a learning curve to get it to make my seating chart how my room is set up but once I got used to it then it worked great. I would like to echo the sentiment that it would be nice to be able to make custom seating charts. I love the ability to keep students at the front, separate chatty students, and group by similar or different ability levels. I would also like to see a functionality to keep students that work well together. Also the app hasn’t been updated in 2 years which is a bit disappointing. It has so much potential!
