Vibration Meter, seismograph

Measure all vibrations

Features & Capabilities

Measure all vibrations and quakes with your smartphone. The Vibration Meter acts as a seismograph, using your device's accelerometer to detect vibrations and record seismic waves. It displays a three-axis graph of ground motion over time and supports monitoring with phones or tablets.

It maps measurements onto Mercalli and Richter scales, along with Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) and the USGS Instrumental Intensity Scale to visualize shaking intensity. You can monitor, analyze, and share results with others from your smartphone or tablet.

User Reviews

Users broadly find the app useful for measuring vibrations and displaying multi-axis data, and some praise its free availability. However, experiences are marred by intrusive ads and questionable pricing practices, plus limitations like no background recording and limited sensitivity. Overall, it’s a helpful tool, but the ad-prone, pricing, and feature-limit issues detract from a consistently good experience.
Pros
  • Records movement data for all three axes with separate numeric readings.
  • Useful for testing and diagnosing vibrations (e.g., turntable vibration).
  • Free to use with no mandatory paid features to start.
  • Generally easy to use and provides quick results.
Cons
  • Intrusive full-screen ads (often with sound) and frequent pop-ups disrupt usage.
  • Misleading pricing and aggressive billing (trial offers, recurring charges, multiple premium prompts).
  • Insufficient sensitivity for daily use (not rly sensitive enough).
  • Lack of background recording capability (app doesn’t run in background or when the phone is off).
  • Ads can interfere with data capture or cause readings to reset to zero when returning to the app.

Okay, admittedly, I have no idea what I’m doing, but I was hoping to find an app that can actually quantify the hard vibration I am feeling. The floor and walls and everything is humming, but not a comfortable numb. It’s jarring. But no, apparently this is not the instrument of which they speak.
