The app offers two play modes—touch interaction and a movie mode—and a free starter set of three characters, with the full version unlocking the rest. User Reviews

Onni & Ilona: Happy Animals is praised for its calming, simple sensory experience and gentle visuals that help soothe babies and young kids. It’s seen as well-made and broadly appealing, with many users voting it worth the price for quiet time and distraction. Common drawbacks include a limited free feature set, content that can be scary for some children, updates that affected usability, and occasional audio bugs. Overall, it’s valued as a soothing caregiver tool but may require a paid upgrade and device-specific considerations.
Pros
  • Calming and soothing sensory experience that helps calm babies and young children.
  • Simple, easy-to-use interface with moving pictures and nature sounds that toddlers can enjoy.
  • High-contrast visuals and colorful backgrounds that attract kids’ attention.
  • Appeals to a wide age range (babies to older kids) and is appreciated by caregivers for soothing during routines.
  • Well-made and enjoyable; many users feel it’s worth the price and that it helps stop crying or reduce fussiness.
Cons
  • Content is limited unless you pay; only a few activities are available for free.
  • Some content (like the owl) can scare young children and provoke crying.
  • Recent updates have removed or altered features (e.g., a preferred timeout) making it less usable for some.
  • Occasional audio/bug issues (e.g., sound staying on or device-specific problems).
  • Perceived value concerns, with some users feeling the app doesn’t live up to the cost or needs significant improvements.

This was my daughter’s favorite app when she was a baby. We spent lots and lots of time looking at it. Today (she’s 4.5 years old now) we opened it for the first time in a long time for nostalgia purposes and found that they changed everything. The animations are different, the sounds are different, it isn’t how it’s always been. I wish there was the option to see the original versions. We were very disappointed today. We probably won’t ever open this app again. Sad that this is gone now.
