User Reviews

Phoenix 2 is praised for its nostalgia, solid audio/UI, and skill-based core gameplay that keeps longtime players engaged. However, many reviews converge on serious downsides: aggressive monetization with gacha-like mods and subscriptions, nerfs that remove upgrades and reduce progression, a random mod system with poor duplicate protection, and ongoing performance problems. These issues dominate discussions and threaten accessibility for new players, even as a loyal base hopes for balance and improvements.
Pros
  • Nostalgic, long-running title with a classic vertical bullet-hell feel.
  • Solid audio design and intuitive UI.
  • Core gameplay rewards player skill and feels engaging beyond simple grinding.
  • Long-standing fan base and sustained engagement with the game over years.
Cons
  • Aggressive monetization: gacha-like mods (engrams), nova cores, and subscription offers, with strong pay-to-win concerns.
  • Recent updates nerf ships and remove upgrades, hurting progression and offering little new content.
  • Engram/mod system randomness and lack of duplicate protection or pity system, which hampers meaningful progression.
  • Performance issues such as lag, unpredictable ship movement, and off-screen/ghost bullets.

Best game

I am really disappointed on the recent update. I have all 100 ships and fly 10 of them frequently. Which means, now when I complete missions every day for maybe five days to pull a red Engram, you only have 10% of chance to hit the right ships. Then, there are maybe only 2(1 if you all ready have the another, yes, you can get a duplicate) out of 7 Engrams are useful. In conclusion, a five day hard-working equals to 3% chance of hit, the other 97% is totally useful, because you can only get 10% points back if you vaporize it. I don’t know what’s the point, just force people to pay?
