Soft Drummer – Brush Sessions

By: Lumbeat App
Ballad & Jazz AUv3 Drum Plugin

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Soft Drummer is a subtle session drummer in your pocket. It delivers natural acoustic drum sounds played with brushes, hot rods, and hands, and it improvises in real time rather than looping. Use it as a plugin inside GarageBand, AUM, and other DAWs (AUv3 coming soon).

With 50 multilayer sounds, round-robin sampling, and a smart jam algorithm, it creates warm grooves for soft pop, ballads, jazz, and Latin styles. New Audio/MIDI export lets you capture multi-track or full-mix drums in seconds, while Ableton Link, MIDI Sync, and MIDI Out keep apps in sync and able to route generated drums to other devices. Live Pads and 4 Board Mode expand live control, and four effects—Compressor/Gate, Equalizer, Delay, and Reverb—offer tone shaping for finished tracks.

User Reviews

Soft Drummer is praised for lifelike drum sounds, a rich preset/groove set, and an easy-to-use interface, with strong Lumbeat suite integration. Many reviewers consider it a standout and worth the price. Some recurring concerns center on the monetization model and paid features, the need for clearer documentation, and occasional bugs. Overall, it’s a high-quality drum app with strong realism and usability, tempered by a few irritants around purchases, guidance, and stability.
Pros
  • Realistic, human-sounding drum tones with strong realism
  • Great sounds, presets, and a wide range of grooves and sonic options
  • Simple, intuitive interface that’s easy to use
  • Strong cross-app integration within the Lumbeat Drummer suite for jam sessions
  • High overall quality and value; widely recommended
Cons
  • Monetization concerns: extra charges for many features / content sold as IAP
  • Documentation and usage guidance could be clearer (lack of obvious instructions for some features)
  • Occasional reliability issues (e.g., export/integration bugs)

Amazing for what it does, and honestly quite surprised there’s nothing else out there similar, but overall still feels janky, and sounds can get repetitive quick, without paying another 20$ for a pack. Been using for days and still can’t find how to do something as simple as delete a pad, or link a kit with a pad. When using sequencer, unable to preview the 3 types of sounds before laying down. Smallish things but head scratching for something 10 years old with outdated ui, still over 20$ and without a dedicated manual (there is only 1 manual shared between apps so it’s a guessing game what applies to each app). I want to hate it but for what it does there’s still no alternative, and it does it reasonably well. Good app, but with some small tweaks could be amazing.
