User Reviews

MarketSim is a beginner‑friendly stock market simulator praised for its realism and educational value, making it good for kids or new investors to practice without real money. Users like the broad stock set and real-time feel, but repeatedly note gaps: an incomplete universe of stocks/ETFs, poor time-based performance charts, and intrusive ads. They also want more advanced tools (shorting, margin, options, futures) and more accurate corporate actions. Overall, it’s valuable for practice but needs better charts, fewer ads, and a richer feature set.
Pros
  • Beginner-friendly and educational, especially for kids or new investors
  • Realistic market simulator that’s good for practice and learning
  • Wide stock coverage with most brands available and a realistic market feel
  • Real-time updates (works in real time mostly)
  • Engaging tool for learning and testing investment ideas without risking real money
Cons
  • Incomplete stock universe; missing publicly traded companies and ETFs, with some markets unavailable
  • Poor or missing charting/time-series features; no portfolio performance history and candlestick charts
  • Ads are intrusive and there are monetization concerns (ads and subscription pressure)
  • Lacks advanced trading features like shorting, margin, options, futures, and bonds
  • Occasional bugs or inaccuracies in the simulation (e.g., stock splits not handled correctly)

I do really like this app but I wish it was more like the GameStock app. It’s paper trading but with actual cash prizes. If MarketSim had actual rewards for doing good I’d feel more motivated. Overall, I enjoy the app. I just want my effort to have a reward so I use the other app mainly for my paper trading since it’s no capital risk either.
