User Reviews

Overall, Flume is praised for leak detection, real-time usage alerts, easy setup, and potential bill savings. The dashboard is helpful for tracking water use and catching leaks quickly. Common downsides include alert fatigue, lack of landscape/iPad support, limited smart-home integrations, onboarding/connectivity hassles, and accuracy issues with slow leaks and some false positives. Improvements like learned-behavior logic help with false alarms, but users still want better multi-meter management, smarter alerting, and broader platform compatibility.
Pros
  • Leak detection and real-time water usage alerts help prevent water waste, including running toilets and leaks.
  • Easy to install with a user-friendly dashboard that provides helpful insights.
  • Can lower water bills by improving awareness and control over home water usage.
  • Algorithm improvements (learned behavior/history-aware) improve alert accuracy over time.
  • Useful for monitoring irrigation leaks and can be applied across multiple properties.
Cons
  • Too many unnecessary alerts and false positives, leading to alert fatigue.
  • Portrait-only orientation; lacks landscape mode, making iPad use less convenient.
  • Limited smart-home integration (no reliable SmartThings or Apple Home compatibility) and ecosystem gaps.
  • Onboarding and setup can be frustrating, with connectivity and enrollment issues.
  • Not reliable for slow leaks and shows accuracy issues, sometimes missing slow leaks or giving approximate results.

The iPad app in landscape looks like an iPhone app running. Pretty useless. The ML learning is also a day behind, so you have to remember what was happening a day or more before to fix the training data.

I got an alert today while I was out of town saying the last 2 hours water has been running at 1.9 gallons a minute. I called my daughter and told her to check faucets and toilets. She said the toilet was running. She shook the handle and it stopped running. If I didn’t have flume thousands of gallons would have been wasted before I got home to fix it. Thank you flume!

I’m hoping the learned behavior update helps with false alarms when my sprinklers go off. Note that you have to manually enable this.
