Features & Capabilities

Nightguard is a Chrome extension that displays your Nightscout BG values from the backend and alerts you when readings go out of range. It shows an overlay chart of yesterday's values to hint at future trends and lets you snooze or reactivate alerts as needed.

Disclaimer: Do not use this extension for medical decisions; it comes with no warranty. The full feature set (HealthKit integration, Apple Watch support, basal-rate tuning) is available in the native Nightguard iOS app. For setup and information, visit nightscout.info.

User Reviews

Nightguard is praised for real-time glucose readings on Apple Watch and a clear iPhone interface, with cross-device usefulness. However, reviewers repeatedly report Apple Health sync problems, unreliable alarms, watch app instability after updates, readability issues on small screens, and limited graph data. The app offers strong wrist access but reliability and UI clarity require attention.
Pros
  • Strong Apple Watch support with real-time glucose readings on the watch and functional watch complications.
  • Clear, quick-updating data presentation on iPhone.
  • Works across multiple devices and data sources, offering flexibility in how glucose data is viewed.
  • Active improvements and fixes to watch features (e.g., watch complications) by the developers.
Cons
  • Unreliable Apple Health sync; often requires being in the Glucose section and may only sync recent hours.
  • Notifications/alarms not reliably triggering or audible; alerts may fail if the app is not open.
  • Watch app instability and complications can break after updates or OS changes.
  • Readability/UI issues on small screens (tiny text on watch complications) and limited graph data.
  • Inconsistent update intervals for watch complications and widgets.

Love the watch readings!

Whenever I try to adjust the alert settings for a high blood sugar and low blood sugar no matter what I set it to it automatically defaults to 180 for a high and 80 low. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and I still get the same results.

The only reason I’m using this app is to sync my FreeStyle Libre glucose readings into the Apple Health app. While it was working better earlier, it isn’t working so well now. For readings to sync, I have to be in the Glucose portion of Apple Health (AH). If I’m anywhere else, it doesn’t sync. If AH is closed it doesn’t sync. It did before. It gets its readings from Gluroo. I tried NightScout Pro with no success. When it does sync it only syncs the last 6 hours. Which means I constantly have to be opening and monitoring the AH app for glucose. The support option is confusing and requires a separate account.
