User Reviews

Overall, users praise EarMaster for its extensive ear-training library, strong rhythm and sight-singing tools, a useful bass fretboard feature, flexible self-paced practice, and solid portability for on-the-go learning. Recurrent drawbacks include pitch-recognition issues for certain voices, frequent stability crashes and startup errors, accessibility gaps, pricing concerns, and some usability limitations such as forced landscape mode.
Pros
  • Comprehensive ear-training library covering intervals, chords, rhythm, and sight-singing.
  • Rhythm and sight-singing tools are highly helpful for choirs and musicians.
  • Bass fretboard feature provides a useful alternative to the keyboard, especially for bass players.
  • Flexible, self-paced practice that adapts to your level.
  • Portable and travel-friendly, great for practice on iPad/iPhone on the go.
Cons
  • Pitch recognition is inconsistent, especially for baritone and lower voices, leading to incorrect scoring.
  • Frequent stability issues: crashes, audio unit initialization errors, and startup unresponsiveness.
  • Accessibility and compatibility problems: not usable with VoiceOver, limited support for hearing aids, and unreliable mic detection on iPad.
  • Pricing concerns: per-section costs and separate desktop version feel expensive.
  • Usability constraints: forced landscape orientation and other interaction limitations (e.g., mic pickup issues).

Endless treasure trove for ear training! When I started, I couldn’t even hear a harmonic interval. Now I can hear (simple) chords. Awesome tool, and I only scratched the surface.
