Vscan Air Wireless Ultrasound

Handheld Imaging & Scans

Features & Capabilities

Vscan Air™ from GE HealthCare aims to advance care for everyone, everywhere by providing an ultra-portable, wireless ultrasound solution that fits in your pocket. The Vscan Air™ handheld ultrasound solution seamlessly pairs with your iPhone device, allowing you to perform whole-body scans anywhere - in the clinic, at a patient's bedside, in an ambulance or even at home.

Vscan Air app users are given quick access to scanning capabilities, with user-friendly controls and functionality. The app features modes for both new and experienced users in mind including B-mode, Color Doppler, Pulsed Wave Doppler* and M-mode*. To help support your workflow the app provides intuitive measurement and annotation* tools right on your display device. In addition, the OB measurements* include the capabilities for fetal size measurements, amniotic fluid checks, angle of progression measurements, estimated fetal weight and more.

Enjoy the flexibility of a wireless experience with wireless device connectivity and data sharing to your DICOM® server or shared network folders. Easily share anonymous exam images or loops to other apps, including your social feed, with just a few taps.

The app seamlessly connects with the 2-in-1 power of the Vscan Air wireless dual-probe (sold separately) that delivers both shallow and deep scanning on a single handheld device. Vscan Air CL wireless dual-probe offers a curved array transducer ideal for abdominal, obstetrics and more with excellent image quality. With a flip of the probe, the linear array transducer provides shallow scanning for vascular, nerve, lung, and musculoskeletal scanning. Vscan Air SL is the newest member to the Vscan Family. It offers the same value of a dual probe with a sector array on one side and a linear array on the opposite side of the probe so you won’t miss a beat when moving from a cardiac to vascular assessments.

The Vscan Air dual-probe handheld ultrasound offers excellent image quality with its SignalMAXTM technology. Despite its small and ergonomic design, the probe does not compromise on image quality, using the same piezoelectric transducer technology as other GE HealthCare ultrasound solutions.

Vscan Air can help healthcare providers get to the answers needed right away and get patients to the right next steps faster. Ultra-portable and ease of use, take Vscan Air everywhere your patients need you for accelerated diagnoses and treatment decisions.

User Reviews

Overall, users praise the Vscan Air for true handheld portability, solid image quality for the price, and active development with features like M mode, PW Doppler, and AI guidance. The main drawbacks are platform stability and availability: iOS compatibility issues, including crashes and app/probe instability after Apple updates, plus questions about Pulsed Wave feature availability by country. Some users also note value in ongoing updates and expect improved annotation tools in future releases. In short: portable, capable device with notable software support but inconsistent iOS stability and regional feature rollout.
Pros
  • Pocket-sized handheld portability enabling easy bedside use.
  • Competitive image quality and clear views for the price, with positive feedback vs competitors.
  • Active development and feature updates (M mode, Pulsed Wave Doppler, cardiac AI guidance, annotations) by GE.
  • Good value for money and overall app usability noted by users.
Cons
  • iOS compatibility issues, including crashes and the app/probe not working after Apple updates (iOS 18).
  • App instability during scans with intermittent closures.
  • Unclear Pulsed Wave feature availability by country/region.

Miss type your password three times, you’re locked out. Let’s just think for a second about what that means for your emergency bedside ultrasound. It’s not gunna happen. Don’t worry there is a guest mode. Just kidding if you press guest mode during your emergency bedside ultrasound, it tells you to log in to the registered account that you are locked out of. Let’s say you want to reach out. No one is responsible for the software that you will be able to contact. This software will absolutely kill people. Get the butterfly.

The app has so many glitches, I haven’t even been able to successfully use it. Seriously considering returning the probe and going with another brand. So disappointing

The app works. The probe works. Good cardiac images. Good PWD. Post sales experience getting a lot better. Thanks.
