User Reviews

User reviews show a strong open‑source, community‑driven app with powerful local automation and a track record of long‑term reliability for many. However, they repeatedly report core issues: frequent disconnections and inconsistent connectivity across local/remote networks; broad instability and bugs (crashes, back button failures, odd restarts); UX regressions and a steep learning curve for non‑technical users; the impression of a web wrapper with loading quirks; and network constraints on certain setups (IoT/secured Wi‑Fi). Overall, solid capabilities amid persistent quality and reliability concerns.
Pros
  • Open-source, free to use, with an active community and ongoing improvements.
  • Strong local automation and customization capabilities for diverse setups.
  • Long-term reliability reported by several users (years of use with no issues).
  • Access to experimental features in Labs, like Kiosk mode and mTLS.
Cons
  • Frequent disconnection and unreliable connectivity, including 'you’re disconnected' messages and issues switching between local and external IPs.
  • General instability and bugs (crashes, app restarting on close, back button becoming unresponsive, occasional load issues).
  • UI/UX regressions and a steeper learning curve for non-technical users.
  • Perceived web wrapper feel and loading quirks; not consistently native-like.
  • Network/local Wi‑Fi constraints and IoT/Wi‑Fi dependencies that hinder use on secured networks.

Great app (which basically hosts the web UI of HA), but it has an Achilles heal: if you start the ssh web terminal from the Home Assistant Supervisor, you have no way to exit it again. The left-arrow pointing to the “Advanced SSH & Web Terminal” add-on page doesn’t do anything. Seems you are in a tmux session, but killing it from a different session doesn’t undo the fact that the app thinks you should be in the ssh terminal and will return you to the new spawned tmux session. Badly explained, but tl;dr: don’t enter the ssh web terminal! Update: odd experience when I migrated HA onto new computer: my iphone connected immediately, my ipad refuses to connect — tried removing the server from the app, reinstall the app, deleting the access token for my ipad, no cigar. Oddly safari behaves the same, so clearly not an issue specific to the app.

I have had this app for many years. And it’s on several devices. Some of which are the primary control interface for entire areas of my house, like the guest room. But something has changed and now NONE of my devices will connect to my HA instance. I literally have NO OTHER WAY to control large sections of my house besides logging onto the computer that runs the server. Whatever you did, UN-DO IT!
