User Reviews

Scriptation is widely praised for boosting workflow, version-controlled collaboration, and a robust annotation feature set with strong support and integrations. However, multiple reviews note reliability problems (crashes/lag) and express concerns about pricing and the subscription model, including trial/billing transparency. Overall, it’s seen as a must-have for film/TV work by many, but reliability and cost considerations temper enthusiasm.
Pros
  • Dramatically improves workflow and efficiency in prep, on set, and during revisions.
  • Keeps notes, annotations, and assets in sync across script updates, enabling seamless revision control.
  • Rich annotation and organization features (layering, scene dividers, page counts, tagging, and reports).
  • Strong collaboration and integrations that let teams share changes quickly and work with other software.
  • Excellent training resources and responsive support.
Cons
  • Reliability issues: frequent crashes/bugs, plus lag and freezing that disrupt workflow.
  • Pricing and subscription concerns: ongoing fees, price increases, and features moved behind a subscription/paywall.
  • Billing/trial transparency issues: unexpected charges or unclear trial terms (refunds is a concern).

Love it and wouldn’t want to work without it.

Scriptation has made a huge difference in my workflow over the past few years. It’s not just having a copy of the script where I can make notes. And it’s not just being able to add photos, shot idea and sketches. It’s being able to keep all those things in the right place whenever the script is updated. And it’s the excellent training videos, seminars, and responsive support, the last of which is hugely important to me when I’m working. New layer features, like scene dividers and 8th page counts are super helpful. Tagging is a powerful tool along with generating reports. And the integrations with other software keep making Scriptation even more useful. This is must-have software and a must-have subscription for anyone working creatively in professional film and television.
