Paranoia Text Encryption Lite Apple

Paranoia Text Encryption Lite

(encrypt notes, messages, …)

Features & Capabilities

Paranoia Text Encryption Lite for Chrome offers client-side text encryption to protect notes, messages, and keys across apps. It supports powerful ciphers (AES-256, Blowfish, RC6, Serpent, Twofish) and can securely encrypt text pasted into Chrome or copied from other apps. Important: it encrypts per-session with a password—it's not a vault in itself—and you can use multiple passwords for different files, tasks, or people.

Advanced options include steganography to hide text or files inside JPEG images with J-UNIWARD or F5, and post-quantum Key Encapsulation (KEM) to safely exchange passwords. The Lite version covers core features; PRO adds additional algorithms (Threefish, SHACAL-2, Paranoia C4) and activation keys for related desktop apps.

User Reviews

Users praise Paranoia Text Encryption Lite for ease of use and solid encryption options, including steganography. However, recurrent issues include data-loss risks due to user actions without safeguards, UI/UX hurdles like unreadable/decryptable text and limited scrolling, and skepticism about security claims and support availability. Some request features like RSA support and clearer transparency on PRO offerings, but many still find it effective and approachable overall.
Pros
  • Easy to use / intuitive UI
  • Multiple encryption options (several algorithms and output formats)
  • Steganography feature (text hidden in images)
  • Simple, no unnecessary features (does what you need)
Cons
  • Risk of irretrievable data loss due to user actions or lack of safeguards
  • Usability/UI issues: not intuitive and inability to scroll/read decrypted text
  • Security concerns / skepticism about claims and availability of support

I no longer trust the easy online wallets for passwords and codes. I use PTE and rotation passwords and have for the last couple of years. My ID has been robbed at least 3 times through data breaches hitting the US gov and other places. TRUST no one. Encrypt your sensitive data yourself. Freeze your credit history.

Straightforward text encryption with multiple variations of method. I also love the added feature of hiding text in pictures. Great job. Very cool indeed.

"upgrading" to Monterey destroyed my ability to use 90% of my legacy software, including iStego. While searching for any free steganography software that was free and usable on my now crippled mac mini (thanks for nothing Monterey), this Paranoia Text Encryption software claimed it could do steganography. Instead of conveniently letting you drop a file of your choice onto an image of your choice and ending up with a file hidden in an image with little fuss, PTE makes it practically impossible. Perhaps someone will figure it out, but my patience wore thin and I gave up after wasting time. Not intuitive or user friendly, and not worth the time I wasted trying to get it to work.
