User Reviews

User reviews converge on a shift from a one-time, lifetime license to a costly subscription, plus removal of fraction-based results. The app remains a usable DIY/construction calculator for some, but widespread dissatisfaction stems from pricing, migration of paid features, and changes that reduce usability (fraction support, ad-embedded UI, and feature locking).
Pros
  • Historically offered a one-time purchase / lifetime access instead of a subscription, which many users preferred.
  • It was quick, easy to use and provided the basic calculator functions needed for DIY/construction projects.
  • It delivered straightforward, real-world calculation capabilities (e.g., fractional and inch-based calculations) that users relied on.
Cons
  • Transition to a high-cost recurring subscription (around $40/year) was widely criticized as greedy and not worth it.
  • Removal of fractions in results; the app now shows decimals only, which many users rely on for construction math.
  • Long-time buyers cannot restore prior purchases or access previously paid features after the update; access to paid content changed or is not transferable.
  • Ads were introduced after updates, with bottom-of-screen ads that disrupt workflow.
  • Key construction-related options are locked behind the paid upgrade, limiting core functionality unless paying.

Paid for a “lifetime” and the developer rolled over to a freemium model. Dishonest marketing.

I am a hobbyist wood worker and was looking for a calculator to do fractional math occasionally. Once or twice a month. I’m not paying a subscription for a construction calculator. I would have been willing to pay a ONE time fee for a calculator. I can buy a real calculator that can complete these operations for the cost of this app. Not worth it to me.
