User Reviews

Piano Partner 2 garners mixed reviews. Some users find it adds useful features and can handle basic recordings, but a large number report unreliable Bluetooth pairing, stability issues, and limited recording export capabilities. The interface is seen as dated and hard to use, with small text and restricted sheet-music viewing. Add to this infrequent updates and compatibility problems across iOS versions and Roland models, and the overall experience is inconsistent and often frustrating.
Pros
  • Reveals additional features and controls on Roland FP-series pianos (e.g., FP-10) that users didn’t know existed.
  • Basic recording and playback can work for some users.
  • Some models (e.g., FP-30) can pair via Bluetooth and connect without immediate issues.
Cons
  • Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable; users report frequent pairing failures, need to retry, or reinstall to connect.
  • App is buggy, with freezes, crashes, and unresponsiveness observed by multiple users.
  • Recording features cannot be exported or shared; long recordings often cannot be saved and playback can be inconsistent when the app is minimized.
  • Outdated UI/UX with very small fonts and limited navigation; cannot zoom sheet music and playback may start from the beginning rather than a chosen measure.
  • Lack of updates and compatibility issues; last app updates were years ago and there are reports of incompatibility with newer iOS versions/models.

This app is compatible with IOS 26.4. I have Beta. The Piano App at this date, is not compatible. I hope it will be soon.

This opened up quite a few features I didn’t know my FP-10 would have. However the UI is just awful. It looks like it was made back in 2009 and never updated.

The Piano Partner 2 app has some innovative controls and some developed features, but there are two issues with it: 1. It doesn't allow you to save recordings to an external device, (or at least explain why it can't). Recording playback slows down and acts very strange when the app is minimized. 2. Bluetooth problems. For about a year, I couldn't connect with Bluetooth, but it was fixed once I realized the bluetooth settings on my FP-10 were turned off accidentally (it uses white keys and function button for the bluetooth settings and is not very obvious when it gets changed, which probably causes a lot of confusion for people). Also possibly fixed in updates, but it's hard to tell.
